SSX & Old AutoLISP
RoutinesThis is just as valid
today!
"Do not assume that old AutoLISP
routines are obsolete!".

A perfect example of this is (SSX). When
FILTER was introduced, most people stopped using
(SSX). FILTER is an extremely powerful command,
however, powerful in a computer often translates into
time consuming. The more power, the more options that
need to be set.
The LISP routine (SSX)'s power is in its
relative
simplicity. Understanding how
(SSX) worked allowed me to use it when it was the
more appropiate tool. For example, entering (SSX)
would give me a PICKBOX to select an object, for
example a POINT I knew was on a specific layer. This
would automatically select all of the POINTS -- on
that layer, of that colour etc. -- without setting a
half dozen options in the FILTER command.
Sometimes, of course, FILTER is the only
way to go!
